To help you learn more about organic gardening, composting and growing your own food and flowers, Silver Lake Farms offers the occasional workshop / adult education class suitable for beginners and more experienced gardeners. Each class covers a different subject and is taught by an expert / professional who is passionate and knowledgeable about their chosen field. Classes are sometimes repeated to give more people the opportunity to learn.
In March, Silver Lake Farms is proud to host a presentation by Josh Frank, a representative from the City of Los Angeles Stormwater Program. The presentation covers stormwater pollution and what we can do to prevent it. Josh also brings with him an abundance of facts designed to help us keep Los Angeles clean and healthy - starting in our own backyards. Keep up the good work L.A.!
Classes are limited to 20 people. You have to register for each class in advance. The first 20 people to register for each class will receive an email confirmation.

3pm - 5pm | The Stuff of Life: Composting & Vermicomposting - Healthy plants come from healthy soil and vigorous soil comes from compost. That's why it's worth making. But just like a plant, compost will suffer if not cared for properly. Worms also make soil healthy; their castings (manure) make plant food, too. This workshop covers different ways of making compost, how to get it started, keep it stoked and what to do with it when it's ready. Expert vermicomposter, Chris Jung, will also teach you how to build a wormery and recycle waste into nature’s gold: worm castings. (Chris supplies the Huntington Botanical Gardens.) Bring or buy all your materials here and go home with a functioning wormery. $45
